JOB TITLE: DOMESTIC AND HOUSEKEEPER

REPORTS TO: Line Manager

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Registered Home Manager

HOURS: Flexible, depending on the needs of the business and agreed working hours at interview.

SARY/HOURLY RATE: TBC

SUMMARY

· To undertake a wide range of domestic and housekeeping tasks for residents who require support within the home and, where appropriate, to provide person centered support and enablement in assisting residents to meet their own domestic and housekeeping needs.

· This document will specify your duties and it will be your responsibility to follow these and other documents which support clarification of your role.

· In summary, you will be responsible for ensuring that the home environment is kept in a clean, hygienic and homely condition, and that health and safety requirements, supported by this home are adhered to as required.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Domestic Role

· General Domestic cleaning and tidying of the whole care home. Cleaning bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, dining room, living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, activity room, meeting room, laundry room, staff room and offices in accordance with cleaning specifications; including ceilings and walls.

· Washing floors and other surfaces including using specific equipment

· Vacuuming and dusting

· Emptying domestic rubbish bins

· Maintain the cleaning and hygiene standards set in place by the company.

· Ensure the safety and good working order of all cleaning equipment including electrical appliances. Reporting immediately any worn or broken equipment.

· Ensure the smooth running of the cleaning rota.

· Maintain privacy and dignity of all resident when undertaking domestic responsibilities, by following the knock and wait policy.

· Ensure the timely and adequate supply of cleaning materials, restocking from central supplies as appropriate. Liaise on a weekly basis with the administrator regarding stock taking and the reordering of cleaning materials.

· Comply with all health and safety and environmental health requirements, e.g. COSHH and the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Maintain good storage processes and stock rotation routines in these areas.

Housekeeping

· Laundering sheets, towels, tablecloths, and personal clothing of the residents. Ensure clean linen is placed in the linen store. Ensure residents clothing is put into their boxes and then put away in their bedrooms neatly.

· Maintain organised and tidy storage within the laundry room ensuring PPE is always available in this area.

· Change bedding of all rooms in use on a minimum of weekly basis or more frequently if required.

· Ensure the safety and good working order of the washer and dryer, reporting any concerns to Maintenance or Management.

· Ensure separate receptacles are used for clean/ dirty laundry and personal clothing is placed into residents’ individual boxes.

· Iron residents personal clothing on a daily basis during the allocated ironing time and press sheets and tablecloths as required to maintain an adequate supply.

· Perform minor sewing repairs as required.

Other duties and responsibilities

· Report any concerns with regards the wellbeing of residents, alerting the Senior in charge of any serious or urgent problems.

· Maintain basic records, such as cleaning specifications and ordering records. To assist in monitoring and recording of quality assurance systems completing any requested audits or collation of housekeeping reports.

· Attend staff meetings, supervisions and mandatory training as required and to attend any service specific or individual development meetings specified through appraisal.

· Behave professionally at all times, showing courtesy to residents, relatives and others who may visit the unit.

· Establish, maintain and develop positive communication and effective working relationships within the resident and staff team. Work as a proactive member of the team ensuring a high quality of service is maintained at all times.

· Appropriately process or file any invoices and communicate any follow-ups or liaison with Management/ Director as needed.

· You may be required to assist in the recruitment process of Domestic Staff. Ensure all new starters receive a period of Training and Induction to the Housekeeping routines and Home environment and support with this as appropriate.

· Maintain a flexible approach to the work you are required to undertake.

· Respect the confidential nature of the work undertaken at the unit, ensuring that no information is shared outside of the staff team within the home, unless this has been authorised by the Home Manager, or Deputy Manager.

· Adhere to all company policies and ensure day to day compliance with health and safety policy guidance, e.g. Including wearing personal protective clothing where appropriate.

· Staff should not accept gifts from residents.

· Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Senior in charge or by Management.

Confidentiality

· All staff are required to respect the confidentiality of all matters they may learn, relating to their employment, other members of staff and the general public including social networking sites.

· This job description should be related to your Contract of Employment, but it is not an exhaustive document. It is an outline of duties and responsibilities and may be subject to change or amendment in consultation with the post holder in the light of future developments within the company.

Safeguarding

· Promptly report any safeguarding concerns about the care, support, well-being or behaviour of staff or residents to the person in charge or Home manager.

· Recognise the signs of abuse as identified in the Company’s Safeguarding Policy and immediately report witnessed or suspected abuse to the Home Manager.

· Be prepared to answer honestly any questions about an occurred incident or an individual’s working practice.

Recording and Reporting

· Protect the confidentiality of all information relating to residents and ensure that this is NOT shared to anyone other than the staff team. Ensure guidance on GDPR is followed at all times.

· Report all complaints made to the Home manager at the time they are raised. Encourage an environment where it is reactive to raising of concerns.

· Ensure paperwork is continual up to date and within regulatory guidelines.

Health and Safety

· Adhere to all regulatory and statutory obligations and the implementation of the company policies, procedures, and guidelines.

· Where appropriate use equipment safely and correctly. Report any unsafe equipment of other concerns.

· Ensure adequate Infection Control Standards are upheld and Cleaning Standards are always to the best of your ability in order to maintain consistent Good standards in Food Hygiene inspections.

· Complete all mandatory training within timescales identified by the Company.

· Monitor pest control and review regularly.

· Assist in the general housekeeping of the home. Ensure the home is kept clean and tidy and that both health and safety and infection control measures are followed.

General

· Attend in house and external training pertinent to the role of Domestic /Housekeeper. Complete allocated E-Learning modules to ensure adequate knowledge is maintained.

· Record working times via the electronic clocking in system and follow procedures in relation to booking and requesting leave from work.

Previous experience

· Experience of working with adults with disabilities would be preferable.
